Things have to change.
OK - exhale. We're all in this together, especially as we all breathe the same air. The good news is it's not too late for us to put things right but we must take immediate action because tomorrow is today.
If we're going to help nature recover and build the sustainable world our children and future generations deserve, we are all going to have to make some changes to reduce our impact: from recycling and cutting our emissions through to changing the ways in which we live our lives and the things that we buy - such as tea. In this anthropocene, no one is too small to make a difference and our collective action adds up. Each degree matters and every single decision you make counts.
The Path to a Green Recovery
Each of us has the power to help build a more sustainable world. But if we're going to make more conscious and sustainable choices, we're going to need more conscious and truly green options to turn to and that is where we come in.
Ghost Matcha® exists to be the first choice for green tea drinkers who want superior tasting matcha that doesn't needlessly compromise the earth and which doesn't needlessly have a high carbon footprint. We have been founded in response to the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis and have been willed into existence to show what a better, greener future for matcha can be.
We are committed to putting the Planet first at every step of the value chain and helping change the way people consume tea. It is our mission to lead a green tea revolution, undo the damage caused by the global tea industry and to set new standards for sustainability with all our organic green tea products. Where there is a greener way, we will take it.
Green Action We've Taken
From tea production and packing to transport, here are some of the most important commitments and decisions we've made to put the Planet first so far...
All our matcha is 100% organic.
All our matcha and green tea powders are grown organically and certified by the Soil Association, the gold standard for organic certification. The environmental benefits of organic farming are clear: organic farming contributes to biodiversity protection, climate change mitigation, soil health and water quality.
All our packaging is fully recyclable.
All Ghost Matcha organic green teas are packed in fully recyclable canisters. They're made of aluminium which means they're a genuinely circular solution and can be recycled endlessly. It is completely unacceptable for tea companies to issue matcha packed in foil pouches or single use plastic sachets in 2025.
We will never, ever air freight.
Air freight is environmental madness and we've pledged that our organic matcha and green teas will always have zero air miles and only be transported from Japan by sea. Shipping uses just a fraction of the CO2 compared to flying and, in the words of the eminent Professor Mike Berners-Lee: "There really is no place for airfreighted food in a low-carbon world."
We offer emissionless delivery in London.
Using a range of zero-emission vehicles, we are able to offer emission free delivery to our customers across London. Opting for electric or human powered deliveries significantly reduces pollution and keeps our cities cleaner and healthier. It’s fast too and must be the future of parcel delivery. As soon as it’s possible for us to offer this service nationwide, we will offer it!
Ghost Matcha is 100% Vegan friendly.
Vegans we salute you. All our green tea powders are registered with the Vegan Society and we promise that they will always be 100% milk and dairy free. In order to respect our commitment to veganism fully - and because the science is overwhelmingly clear that using dairy milk to create a matcha latte significantly increases its carbon footprint - we always advocate for the use of plant-based milks and oat milk, in particular.
We are a member of 1% for the Planet.
We're a proud member of the global 1% for the Planet network and have committed to contribute at least 1% of our annual sales to support environmental causes that we believe in. To this end, we've partnered with the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity and guardian of our most powerful natural weapons in the fight against climate change: trees.
